About the name…
“Von Koeke” was chosen as the name of this special house for a number of reasons. This name, in both the old German and Mohawk languages, translates to “the dwellling place of the Creator” and not only reflects the cultural heritage of the owners, program directors and the Village of Bear River itself, it also relects the healing, transformative nature of the retreat programs we offer.
About the House…
Von Koeke House is a gracious, historic home located on the edge of the unique artists village of Bear River, Nova Scotia. Built by a Sea Captain in the late 1800’s, this lovingly preserved home overflows with tranquility and warm elegance. This unique, historic gem serves as home away from home to all our retreat guests.
